The Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries and CRaB are delighted to host an academic seminar on Friday 20th October with an exciting line up of academic panellists and practitioners. The seminar is in support of Journeys Festival International (JFI) Portsmouth and specifically responding to newly commissioned dance performance #Jesuis.

It is human nature to travel, migrate and move. These movements can be viewed as voluntary or forced, economic or political, desirable or reprehensible. Regardless of how it is categorized, mobility is often an opportunity for learning. Many of us are familiar with the stimulating effect of going to a new place, with different languages and customs to be learned, and opportunities for socialising, work and pleasure to be had.
Taking dance as both a demonstration and a metaphor of the power of human movement, this informal, panel-based seminar will explore how cultural adaptability and creative thinking are strongly related to the long history and present-day realities of journeys, which may be taken for all kinds of reasons. Join this discussion, featuring specially invited leading performers, academics and artists from around the UK.
